In recent times, prisoners have attracted the attention of the sociologists, jurists and protagonists of human rights all over the world. The present study is an attempt to analyse the various rights available to the prisoners in India. However, it also covers the position of the prisoners in the U.S.A. and the U.K. and the contribution made by the International Conventions on Human Rights, on the subject. The emphasis in this study is mainly on the Constitutional aspects of various rights of the prisoners and their scope. In particular, the role of the judiciary in interpreting the Constitutional and other statutory provisions has been analysed threadbare. 

 

Mr. Naresh Kumar, B.Sc. LL.B. LL.M. has a brilliant academic career, obtaining first class in graduation and first class first in LL.M. His fields of specialisation are constitutional law and family law. He is, currently, working on ‘Legal Control of Air Pollution’. He is engaged in research and teaching in the Department of Law at M.D. University, Rohtak (India).
