The Book
Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru rightly said, “When women moves forward the family moves, the village moves and the nation moves”. With the spread of education and awareness, women entrepreneurs are reaching higher level. The role of women entrepreneurs helps industrial development, promotes economic development and helps to solve the problems of unemployment and poverty.
Women entrepreneurship is both about women’s position in society and the role of entrepreneurship in the same society. Women are faced with specific obstacles (such as family responsibilities) that have to be overcome in order to give them access to the same opportunities as men.
The importance of entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship has been recognised all over world. North East India is industrially backward region of the country with abundance of natural resources. The main tribal people of the region used the available natural resources for their domestic consumption by using their traditional knowledge system. The commercialization of abundant natural resources of the region could be achieved by developing creative local entrepreneurs with the help of modern techniques of production and distribution. Hence, the present book is a humble attempt to highlights the issues and challenges for developing local entrepreneurs and the business prospect in the North East Region of the country.
Taking in view of the above, the present book entitled ‘Women Entrepreneurship in North-East India: Issues and Challenges’ is a collection of 35 (thirty five) research papers contributed by the scholars having specializations in the field of entrepreneurship and economic development.
