Traditional Beliefs and Practices of the Kukis: Before the Advent of Christianity

This study of the Traditional beliefs and practices of the Kukis before the advent of Christianity is the first of its kind. Books on the Kukis written by the British officers were mostly of Kuki origin, geneology, linguistic survey, nomenclature, etc. The present work is a new venture attempted to unearth the rich Socio- cultural heritage of the Kukis through ages. The study combines a historical and contemporary analysis and thereby, provides the readers with a multi-dimensional study of the Kuki culture and tradition worthy of great attention.

About the Author

DR. D. SONKHOJANG HAOKIP (b.1959) is an Associate Professor and Head of Department in History, churachandpur College, Manipur and a visiting Professor at the Sangai International University, Churachandpur, Manipur. He passed his Matriculation in 1975 at Gandhi Memorial H/S, Churachandpur, Manipur . He had obtained B.A. History (hons) from St.Anthony’s college, Shillong, and Master’s Degree in History from NEHU. He was appointed lecturer in Government College through the recommendation of Manipur Public Service Commission,Imphal in 1990. While serving as lecturer, he did his research work under the Faculty Improvement Programme of UGC, and availed Teacher’s Fellowship. He was awarded Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) by the Manipur University in 2008 .
