This volume contains 31 papers dealing with the issue of regional disparities and regional planning. The volume is divided into three parts. Part 1 of the volume contains 11 papers dealing with inter-state disparities in India. The first paper gives an over view of the problem of regional disparities and economic development in the developed and the developing countries. The second paper in this section delves into the historical roots of regional imbalances in India. The third paper in this section seeks to look at the problem of regional dualism and development process in post-independence India in the context of the task of national integration and nation building. The next four chapters deal with the factors in relative backwardness of eastern Uttar Pradesh. The last paper in this part deals with the challenge of development and poverty in Bundelkhand region of U.P.
