A healthy and sound politics is the life belt of a democratic country and it makes democracy functional and viable. A vibrant and conscious society may also be considered as the source of clean politics. Elections are free, fair and peaceful only when voters can exercise their franchise freely and without fear. At large, Mizoram politics is peculiar while comparing to other parts of the country. Over the years, elections in Mizoram have been, by and large, incident-free, low-key, free, fair and peaceful. It was possible only because of the unwavering cooperation and unflinching support received from different sections of the society like political parties, church bodies, civil society organizations, student community and the general public during election time. This greatly strengthened the election machinery and also makes the implementation of Model Code of Conduct easier and the election scene in the State totally different from other parts of the country where elections are mostly in servitude. For which, Mizoram is often described as a “role-model-State” in the northeast in particular and in the country in general. The Election Observers often said that “Mizoram elections are the freest and fair, peaceful and clean elections held in any part of the country. It should be copied by other states”. The present volume is a modest attempt of the author in understanding the sequences of political scenario/ development in Mizoram. The book will be a very useful document. One will understand the political scenario that has been prevailed in the State by reading it.
