The book outlines the cultural and operational aspects of public administration which is also the chief instrument of development in India. The complexity of cultural variables in India has drawn attention of many an eminent thinker. Some of the important thinkers who have offered valuable ideas on India’s culture and its impact on our socio-political set-up are Nirad C. Chaudhari, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Paul H. Appleby. In the first section of the book an attempt has been made to bring into focus the important ideas of these thinkers. In the second part of book the operational aspects of administration have been examined in detail. Problems of rural development, diffusion of innovation, transfer of technology and urban development have been subjected to an indepth analysis.
Dr. K.D. Trivedi, M.A., M.D.P.A., Ph.D. (born 1936) has been actively engaged in teaching and research in the different areas of Public Administration for over two decades. His major interests have been Development Administration. Organization Theory and Organization Behaviour. He has several publications to his credit some of which have found place in prestigious national and international academic journals. He has also visited many institutions of higher learning abroad, including the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex, U.K., University of Guelph in Canada and Institute of State and Law, Moscow, U.S.S.R. At present he is engaged in a University Grants Commission sponsored major project on “Organisational Implications of Transfer of Technology.
