Iraqi Foreign Policy Since Revolution

Iraq is one of the progressive Middle East Countries which has followed the path of socialist pattern of economy. Its advancement in the field of Science and Technology is parallel to the developed countries. The percentage of literacy is higher as compared to any other Middle East Countries. This book is the study of the Iraqi Foreign Policy since Revolution which took place on 14 July 1958 and prior to this Iraq was a monarchy. The author has discussed the Foreign Policy of pre-revolution period right upto 1993. Starting with an elaborate discussion of Determinants of Iraq Foreign Policy and developments upto 1958, the subsequent portion of the book contains the topics, viz., Iraq and Her Neighbours; Iraq’s Attitude towards Arab-Israeli Conflict; Iraq’s Relations with the US and USSR; Iraq and Other Powers which include Britain, France, Japan and China; Iraq’s World with special reference to Indo-Iraq Relations: Iraq-Iran War (The Gulf War 1), 1979-88 and Iraqi Policy during post Gulf-War I period; the Gulf War II and its implications, 1989-93. The last chapter deals with the latest disastrous Gulf War which took place between Iraq and allied Forces of 32 countries led by the United States of America. Thus the book is the first comprehensive study of the Iraqi Foreign Policy and will be found highly useful by students and scholars of contemporary history of the region.

Dr. Mahboob Alam (b. 1954) obtained his M.A. (Pol.Sc.) and Ph.D. degrees from the Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 1977 and 1980 respectively. he belongs to 1981 batch of Tamil Nadu Cadre of IPS and is currently serving as AIGP of CISF.
