The book, “Innovations for Development and Excellence” is written out of a management research carried out on Organisational Excellence, after considerable experience as a researcher, consultant and a trainer. The book is structured around 31 identified attributes of Organisational excellence, 15 relating to General Management Excellence, 8 to Human Resource Management Excellence and 8 attributes of Operational Management Excellence, including 9 factors of powerful leadership and 10 factors of performance culture. The book has attempted to put forth to the readers the extent to which the identified factors make a contribution to the three forms of excellence - general management, human resource management and operational management excellence.
The book is divided into three parts: The first is on Overview and contains three chapters: first on Innovations for Excellence in Management, second on An approach to Study Organisational Excellence Qualitatively and third on Some Globalisation Issues for excellence in Public Enterprises.
The second part of the book has five chapters from chapters 4 – 8. The fourth chapter is devoted to importance of clarity of Vision, Mission and Strategies for organisational Excellence. It highlights the importance of vision; mission and strategies. The fifth chapter discusses the importance of Powerful Leadership for Achieving and Nurturing Excellence. It touches upon the cornerstones of the concepts and constructs surrounding powerful leadership. The sixth chapter is on creating a high performing culture. The seventh is on innovative HR policies and practices which discusses various innovations made in HR practices. The eighth chapter is on Competency Talent and Team Management. It has tried to present systematically various important factors in competency and team management processes that are essential to build a strong performance culture.
The third part of the book is on: “The Architecture and Pillars of Organisational Excellence” and contains four chapters from chapter 9-12. Chapter 9 is on Organisational Design for Achieving and Nurturing Excellence. Chapter 10 is on Achieving and Nurturing General Management Excellence. Chapter 11 is on Achieving and Nurturing Human Resource Management Excellence. Chapter 12 is on Achieving and Nurturing Operational Management Excellence.
About the Author
V.N.Srivastava (b.1957), is currently Professor (HR & OB), Centre for Organization Development, P.O.: Cyberabad, Hyderabad – 500 081 (A.P.), and also Director, OD Skill Development Academy Pvt. Ltd. (the Associate Training Partners of Tata Institute of Social Sciences, School of Vocational Education, Mumbai for HR & Sales programs at Gurgaon). He is Ph.D in Management & Labour Studies from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and M.B.A from Faculty of Management Studies, Banaras Hindu Iniversity, Varanasi. He has more than 30 years of professional and academic experience in leading management institutes and organizations such as MDI, Gurgaon, IIPA, New Delhi, AIMA, New Delhi, NPC, New Delhi, IIHMR, Jaipur, Bangalore and IBS Gurgaon. He has a teaching, training and consultancy background, has been a UNDP Consultant on Institution Building at Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun, under Ministry of Environment Forest & Climate Change, Government of India. He has developed HRD Plan document for Madhya Pradesh Forest Department and Maharshtra Forestry Sector as a part of World Bank Forestry projects in 1996 and 1998. His teaching interests are in the area of Organisational Behavior, Human Resource Management, Organisation Development, Training & Development, Performance Management and Reward Systems, Change Management, Competency Mapping, etc. He is currently working on strengthening Human Resource Management through competency mapping in a few Government departments. He is also visiting faculty to various management institutes.
He has published two books: one on Human Resource Management & Organizational Learning, another is a training manual on Team Building and Development. He has published several research papers in leading Indian Journals. He has also attended seminars and conferences – both national and international organized by Asian Productivity Organisation, Tokyo, Development Academy of Phillipines, National HRD Network and has also been in the committees for organizing national conferences.
