The main objective of this book is to discuss the subject of sheep farming under the Indian conditions with an emphasis on the application of economic principles for the benefits of the students. The book will undoubtedly prove useful to teachers and students alike. The presentaton of the material has been deliberately kept simple and supported with diagrams so that it could also be understood and used even by literate progressive farmers who may not have any previous training in the subjcet. Extension specialist in the farm management and other extension workers engaged in sheep development programmes can also benefit from this book. With regard to the method of exposition, liberal use has been madeof graphic and diagrammatic analysis. Mathematical and statistical tools have been used at appropriate places. Important information although not relevant for a particular chapter has been given in appendices. It is hoped that the list of selected references given will provide students will the best classic and contemporary treatements of particular topics.
Dr. S.K. Chauhan (b. 1958) has all along a brilliant academic career, having obtained the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees in the first division. He is currently serving as Asstt. Professor in H.P. Krishi Vishwavidyalaya. Palanpur. He has so far contributed nearly a dozen papers which have been published or accepted for publication in reputed journals. Dr. T.V. Moorti (b. 1934) had also a brilliant academic career. He obtained his Ph.D. (Agricultural Economics) from Agricultural University Pantnagar (U.P.). Currently he is serving as Professor and Head, Dept. of Agricultural Economics in the H.P. Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Palampur. Besides teaching Post Graduate classes, he also supervises doctoral research work. He has also 90 publications to his credit.
