This work addresses the constraints and possibilities of economic development of the state of Mizoram. It outlines potentialities of economic growth of the region presenting critical analysis of the socio-economic parameters and examines a host of issues pertaining to management of natural resources, problems of shifting cultivation, environmental crisis, and people’s participation in various developmental activities. Attempt is made to examine the role of markets in the economic growth of the state and analyses the role of the Central and State governments in the promotion and regulation of markets.
J. Zorema (b. 1960) obtained his MA (Hist) and Ph.D. degrees from North-Eastern Hill University in 1983 and 2003 respectively. He is the Principal of Government J. Buana College, Lunglei, Mizoram. He has contributed a number of research papers and articles to various periodicals and journals and presented papers at seminars and conferences. He is a author of “Indirect Rule in Mizoram” (2008). He is a Life Member of North East India History Association and Mizo History Association. He is actively involved in social works. He is also a Life Member of the Indian Red Cross Society, the Leprosy Mission of India, and is currently a Panel Member of Lok Adalat for Lunglei District and a member of Child Welfare Committee for Lunglei District.
