It was conceived with the interest of widening the scope of research on women in the 21st century. Major issues were the opening chapter on “The 21st Century: Women’s Era”. This did a global overview of what the preceding chapters dwelt on. A chapter on “Women Status and Gender Bias of 21st Century” clearly elucidated on the major discourse between status and gender as major dimensions of social inequality and stratification in the society. A chapter on “Gender Dissimilarity Mapping in Work Participation” is a major interest for those in industrial Sociology or Sociology of Work. A brilliantly written chapter on “Gender Equality and Women Empowerment” would definitely elicit the attention of gender activities as the contention continues on the place of women in household income. A pure cultural studies on “Empowerment and Traditional Assasemes Society” is unique and worthy of reading.

The place of “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Women Empowerment” is a beautiful addition to this book. Of major interest to economists and management scientists are the determinants of access to formal credit to women entrepreneurs. This exposed those assumptions and presuppositions that are usually ignored. Definitely, educationists would appreciate the chapter on “Women Education in the 21st Century”. Medical sociologists and health scientists would appreciate the chapter on determinants of “Women’s Health in the 21st Century”. A chapter on “Politics of Gender Boundary” definitely would interest a core political scientist. Experts in Sociology of the family would appreciate the chapter on “Work and Family Reconciliation”, this clearly point at the vulnerability of younger women. A chapter on “Disaster, Women and Vulnerability” is an attestation to one of the SDGs, as women and young girls are the most vulnerable to disaster and poverty. A new dimension was brought into the book by the chapter on “Women and Sports in Post Colonial Nigeria”, definitely an interesting master piece. To show the currency of the book, a chapter on “COVID-19 Lockdown and Gender Violence” was brought into the picture. In fact, the lockdown brought about a geometric progression in the incidence and prevalence of rape against minors in Nigeria. A follow up chapter on “Violence Against Women” is also worthy of commendation. The final chapter on “Women’s Movement in Bangladesh” is the ice on the cake. In all, the editors commend the authors for their contributions from India to Bangladesh to  Nepal and finally, Nigeria.
