Truancy-A Sociological Study

This book is an attempt to delve into one of the problems faced by the teaching faculty at the school level. There is a tendency to brand the truant student as an incorrigible delinquent. This may be due to lack of proper under-standing. This study shows that there are various factors such as heredity and environment that make a person or breaks a person. A genuine under-standing of a truant helps to love the person as he is without condemning him. This book will be a great help for the teaching community as well as for the parents who wish to understand the different patterns of behaviour of their children

George Mathew Parampukattil (b. 1951) is primarily and educationist, Although born in Kerala, he did his undergraduate and postgraduate studies from Andhra University. As an educationist he realised the need for research on the ailing educational system and the problems faced by the student and teaching communities and this prompted him to undertake research. This research led him to obtain a Ph.D. degree from Dibrugarh University, Assam. He has worked for  the educational and social upliftment of the tribals of North-East, particularly among the Garos of Meghalaya, Nagas of Nagaland and the Mishings of Assam. At present, he is the Principal of St. Joseph's College, Jakhama, Nagaland. In 2005, he was presented Dr. Sam Higginbottam award for the Best Principals of India by all India Association for Christian Higher Education (AIACHE). He is a member of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS).
