Tribal Culture and Society

The present book is an outcome of author’s Ph.D. work. The book basically details the perception of change which has taken place in the major social organizations of the Tharu tribals. The main focus of the book is to highlight the impact of mainstream culture among the Tharu people specially in the areas of family, marriage, kinship, religion, economy, political system, and material culture, etc.

The book provides the ethnographic details of Tharu culture in present time. This book will be useful for the research students of fields of Sociology, Anthropology, Tribal Studies, and Policy Planners and all those who have keen interest to know the tribal culture. 

About the Author

Bir Pal Singh (b. 1970) is presently working as Assistant Professor (Panchayat Admin. & Nyaya Panchayat) in National Law Institute University, Bhopal (M.P.). He obtained Ph.D. in Anthropology from Lucknow University. His papers have been published by both journals of national and international reputes.

His academic and research interest include Tribal and Customary Laws, Legal Anthropology, Sociology of Law, Social Exclusion and Law, Law and Social Transformation, and Law Relating to Affirmative Action.
