He completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Kalyani, securing First-Class First position in his Master’s. Earlier, he had been a subject topper at the All-India Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in Higher Secondary in 1997 in his subject.He earned his PhD from Jadavpur University, becoming the first scholar in the Department of Sociology to be awarded a doctorate. His doctoral research focused on Health Hazards and the Care of Cancer Patients. Currently, he serves as Professor in the Department of Sociology at The University of Burdwan. At Burdwan University, Dr. Dey pioneered the introduction of Medical Sociology as an elective paper at the Master’s level, a first of its kind in West Bengal. He is also actively involved in the Postgraduate Diploma course in Guidance and Counseling, offered in collaboration with the Department of Lifelong Learning, where he has played a key role in designing its structure and content. Additionally, he is engaged with the Women’s Studies program at the university. Dr. Dey has presented papers at numerous national and international conferences, the most notable being his participation at the University of Manchester, England, in September 2009. He has over 70 publications to his credit, including contributions to national and international journals and edited volumes. Several research scholars are currently pursuing their PhD under his supervision, and three have been awarded their doctorates so far. He has also been associated with nearly all major universities in West Bengal in various academic capacities.
