In History, throughout the world, women have made an important and direct contribution to the economic support of the family. Due to the increasing facilities of higher education, employment and high cost of living, more and more women are entering into the white-collared employment. However these women are concentrated in the lower levels of administration. The study has pointed out that women in the white collared world, like other women had all the disadvantages. Their status degradation in the domestic sphere invariably resulted in depletion of energies and mental capabilities towards a non-career circulation. The trends of modernisation with regard to office jobs and inter-personal relationship within the office organisation may provide a relative satisfaction to the women employees, but it has no lastong effect both on the office careers as well as the personal position at home. The economic modernisation in this context has no independent existence being totally effected by powerful background “culture” and the concept known as “Patriarchy”. Thus the freedom or autonomy, secured as a result of modernisation at a particular point of time and in a given economic sphere, is taken away by the other factors relating to culture and social organisations. Their overall position indicates the taking up of white collared jobs may be symptom of modernisation, but it has little significance in a tradition-bound exploitative society.
