a) Guilford introduced the new concept of creativity that has gained with popularity in the field of psychology. It says that creativity is identical with divergent thinking. It is Guilford?s basic postulation which says that creativity is independent of intelligence. It gave a new direction to researches in the area. The major trend in researches in terms of non-cognitive correlates of creativity as much of the work is centred round personality. Social, familial and cultural variables have not been studied in any depth. The present study is intended to identify a set of social-familial and personality correlates of creativity. The results of the study would help to: develop more adequate theories of creativity; devise educational/clinical strategies for predicting and fostering creative behaviour, and understand the interactive effects of social, familial and personality variables on creativity.
