The tribal people those who are depending on tea gardens for their livelihood and residing in quarter within the garden areas is called tea tribes. Tea tribes are lagging from other communities in every aspect of their socio-economic indicators. Educationally the communities are most vulnerable. Right to Education Act, (2009) open the opportunities of education to all; irrespective of class, caste, creed, ethnic identity and gender. In this backdrop the book discus the growth and history of tea gardens in India in general and Western Duars region in particular; profile of major tribes in India with special focus on tea tribes of West Bengal; major education policies since British India and the impact of Right to Education Act, (2009) on tea tribes of Western Duars region.
Dr. Anil Kumar Biswas (b.1971), Ph.D, Associate Professor, Department of Political Science, The University of Burdwan having research interest in Public Administration, Rural Development, Local Government, Public Policy and Tribal Empowerment. He completed two major research projects funded by ICSSR, New Delhi (one under IMPRESS Scheme) and one minor research project funded by UGC, New Delhi. He published one book titled “Socio-Economic Profile of Toto Tribe” in 2019 from Aayu Publications, New Delhi and 63 research papers from various reputed national and international journals and edited books from Routledge, Cambridge Scholars, Bloomsbury, Nova sciences and reputed publishers from India. He presented 15 papers in international seminars and 33 papers in national seminars. He is a life member of Indian Political Science Association, West Bengal Political Science Association, Bengal Institute of Political Studies and Vashistha Institute for North Bengal and North East Developmental Studies.
