This volume is based upon the Conference of the same title held at the North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, India, during March 16-18, 1981. It consists of articles by physicists working in India on various aspects of the problem of strongly disordered systems. Although the publication of this volume is somewhat delayed, its contents are still of sufficient scientific interest. Indeed, they are likely to remain so as long as we lack a thorough understanding of the amorphous state of matter. It is hoped that these essays will aid newcomers as well as research workers already in the field in their endeavour to understand the disordered systems.
