Participation of local people in village development work is most important for the proper development of the village area. Rustics participate in the village development process through the participation in the two important grassroots platforms i.e. Gram Sansad and Gram Sabha meetings. Local people raise their voices and suggest and assess the village development work in both grassroots platforms i.e. Gram Sansad and Gram Sabha meetings. Participation of local people in the aforementioned platform varies block-wise and village-wise. Active participants are less in number in most of the rustic places. Per cent of people participation is also affected by the scenario of rural development. Participation of people also varies as per the social category i.e. Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Scheduled Caste (SC) of population. Scheduled populations both Caste and Tribe are less participatory than the remaining social category of the population in rural development work. Spatial variation in Village Councils performance in rural development work is the common picture in the southern part of West Bengal in eastern India. Regional disparity in Indian villages is the common scenario of development in most pockets of rustic places.
