In other words the study has been able to focus a comparative picture between the maximum and minimum security prisons and their limitation. The detailed description, evaluation and examination of open prison has till now remained an un-researched area. The present study is an attempt to fill in this knowledge gap. This research has been taken in the form of a project sponsored by the PREM (Planning, Reseach, Evaluation, Monitoring) division of the Ministry of Welfare.
