Mizoram, a northeastern part of India has experienced certain irregularities in management of PDS such as leakages, diversion of PDS and issue of bogus ration cards. Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh has hailed as a model state in PDS and it has earned the praise of the union government and the Supreme Court which have ordered other states to follow its model in terms of management of PDS. The study aims to evaluate the polices, organisational structures and administration of the PDS in both the states. The book attempts to examine the performance of PDS in the select states of Chhattisgarh and Mizoram and is expected to draw lessons from the experiences of Chhattisgarh which would provide policy suggestions to the governments and policy makers of underdeveloped states, particularly Mizoram regarding the management of PDS.
