Lois Of Manipur

Lois Of Manipur

Regular price Rs. 195.00

The book deals with the Lois of Manipur, classified as Scheduled Castes, with special reference to the socio-economic aspect of the community covering about thirty villages. Special case studies of four of the Lois-Andro, Khurkhul, Phayeng and Sekmai vis-a-vis the Meiteis inhabiting the valley have been made. The population distribution of Manipur, one of the North-eastern states of India is peculiar in that the valley is inhabited by the Meiteis, the majority group whereas the surrounding at hills are scattered with various hill-tribes of whom much research has been carried out. In the periphery ? the foot-hills, between the Meiteis in the valley and the Hill tribes on the hills, the Lois are spread out. The book is an attempt to trace the origin, the social status, customs and nature of worship of the Lois in general and the Andro, Khurkhul, Phayeng and Sekmai in particular.
