Legends of Manipur-Retelling the Puyas

This book mirrors the culture, history and traditions of the Meitei community of Manipur in Northeast India. The Puyas are ancient manuscripts that span disparate realms of knowledge and topics collected by Meitei ancestors. The retelling of the Puyas captures the cultural traditions of Manipur nurtured through the ages. The stories in the book are also replete with moral and ethical values, which become reminiscent of the contemporary generation through repetitive narrations, as a constant reminder of these ethics from the past. The canvas painted through these stories reminisces the cultural memory of bygone days.

Dr. Rosy Yumnam was born in Imphal, Manipur and now lives in Shillong, Meghalaya. Dr. Yumnam works as an Associate Professor in the Department of English Language Teaching at the English and Foreign Languages University, Shillong, Meghalaya. Her research and publications address language, culture and pedagogy, teaching language skills, business communication, production of ELT materials and academic writing. Dr. Yumnam has edited three books, titled, Studies in Language, Literature and Linguistics (2024), Language Teaching in India: Theory and Practice (2023) and Language and Discourse: Culture, Literature and Pedagogy in North East India (2018). She has authored a book titled, Culture in English Language Teaching: The Use of the Puyas in the English Language Classroom (2021).
