Indian Rural Women
It is now recognised that status of women in society, both in developed and developing countries continues to be inferior to men. Women in most of the societies of the World have to perform some assigned works in the family just as they are being women. Men rarely help women in such works even when they remain free from work. The plight of the rural women in India is deplorable and the impact of the present development activities on the status and role of women is not marked. Most of the rural women in India are considered ?non-workers although they are overburdened with work which are indirectly linked with economic activities. The present study highlights the drudgery of hard routine works of rural women of Assam which keep them busy even upto 14 hours a day. The stereotyped life style is changing in a slow pace. The coming generation is now aspiring after activities which can give them a better status in the family as well as in the society.
