Gulf Migration and Rural Transformation in Telangana by Vijay Korra

This book is based on field data collected from 10 districts of Telangana at the end of 2017 and early 2018 to address the core issues of Gulf migrants from the state. It captures what factors propel the workforce to migrate to the Gulf countries, evaluates the socio-economic and occupational background of the emigrants, employment, working and living conditions, lifestyle, repercussions of the remittances on the Gulf migrant households, left-behind family members, and rural economy. The book specifically examined whether the Gulf migration has contributed to the development of the emigrant households on the one hand and the development changes in the village economies on the other. The book offers appropriate, pragmatic, and much-needed policy prescriptions to address the issues that are plaguing the emigrant workers from Telangana in particular, and India in general. This may help policymakers to formulate a suitable policy for the well-being of the Gulf migrants.
