The book relates to the unique geography of the unique land segment of India, represented by Arunachal Pradesh or the Land of Rising Sun. Arunachal Pradesh is a State which has been least explored and exposed. Its geography has remained least comprehended. Its potentials and plan projects have, accordingly, remained least recognised and ill-effectively executed. The present book represents a modest attempt to fill the void felt in academic and planning circles. The contents of the book provide a geographic comprehension of Arunachal Pradesh on the one hand and expose its potentials and weaknesses confronting the developmental prospects on the other. The book has been designed and the subject matter has been so discussed that it may attract not only specialists, the students, the professorate, the policy makers, and the planners but also all those who keenly look forward to know the land and people of this extraordinarily beautiful state of India.

Dr. Surya Pal Shukla (b. 1939) passed his M.A. (Geography) and was awarded Ph.D. in the same subject. He also passed H.S.V. (Hindi). His subjects of specialisation are Geomorphology, Agricultural Geography and Applied Geography. He is member of several Associations and Geographical Societies. He is also Fellow of Royal Geographical Society, London. He has already authored three books. Currently he is the Principal, Govt. Degree College, Itanagar (Arunachal Pradesh). Prof. N. Sharma (b. 1945) passed M.A. (Geography) from Patna University and M.R.P. (Master of Regional Planning) from IIT, Kharagpur. He was awarded Ph.D. by Bhagalpur University. He started his career as Lecturer in Patna University in 1971 and is currently serving as University Professor and Head, Dept. of Geography, L.N. Mithila University, Darbhanga. He is Life Member of National Association of Geographers of India and Member, Indian Regional Science Association, Kharagpur. He has published some 20 research papers. He is Editor/Member of Editorial Board of Several Geographical journals published in India. He has participated in a number of Conferences/ Seminars held in the country.
