Folklore of the Liangmais

This book “The folklore of the Liangmais” presents a comprehensive examination of the Liangmai tribe’s cultural heritage, an often underrepresented indigenous group located in the northeastern regions of India, notably Manipur and Nagaland. The Liangmai people possess a rich folklore shaped by distinct customs, belief systems and practices meticulously preserved across generations. The book aims to enhance understanding of the vital role that folklore plays in shaping community identities and preserving cultural heritage.

Ab. Dijinbou is a research scholar in the Department of Cultural and Creative Studies at North Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong. Originally from Tamei, Manipur, he is an alumnus of Hamai English High School. He holds a Master’s degree in Folkloristics from NEHU, as well as a Master’s in Social Work (MSW) and has qualified for the UGC-NET in Folk Literature. His research interests include tribal studies, culture and folklore.
