The book entitled “Environmental History of North Bengal (A Study on Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch- Behar)” is an important study of the environment and ecology of the northern part of West Bengal from a historical perspective. The author has attempted to identify the significant aspects of natural resources that have been exploited and degraded in extreme ways, as well as to explore the changes that have occurred over the decades in the natural environment of the Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch- Behar districts. This book aims to investigate various aspects and the roots of the environmental issues and problems in the study area, spanning from the colonial period to the post- independence era. Dr. Krishna Barman (b. 1982) has been serving as an Assistant Professor of History at Nakshalbari College, Darjeeling, West Bengal since 2010(April). Before joining the College she served as an Assistant Teacher at Taraknath Sundurbala BalikaVidyalaya, a Higher Secondary School in the Darjeeling district, from October 9, 2007, to April 6, 2010. The author has published a good number of research articles in international and national peer-reviewed journals, as well as in UGC CARE-listed journals and edited books. Her areas of interest include environmental, tribal and cultural history.
