Environmental Pollution due to growing developments, needs control through education in various forms like formal, non-formal and informal, for which intiative have been taken from 1970 by international organizations and directions have been given to U.G.C. and both Central and State Governments by the Supreme Court of India. In such a context, the present work is an attempt to study the status of environmental education in school curriculum of Orissa, to examine the knowledge of school students on environment and environmental pollution and to find out their level of understanding on causes, consequences and remedies of environmental pollution and prescriptions for creating awareness for its control. The researchers have incorporated the subject matters of various types of environmental pollution their sources, effects, and methods of control and the protective measures undertaken in the form of Conferences, Acts, Regulations undertaken at international, national and regional levels which will be helpful to all concerned.
