Emerging Perspectives In Physics Education

For making teaching of Physics more fruitful and effective, innovations in the area of teaching learning process are necessary. It is necessary to involve models for making physics teaching effective in tune with the needs, preferences and attitudes of students. Cognitive and effective variables have direct bearing on the student?s learning process. A few studies have been undertaken in India in this area. In this book an attempt has been made to assess the Cognitive Preference Styles and attitudes of different groups of science students. In an examination-oriented system, memorisation plays important role. The study reveals that the students have strong preference for ?recall? rather than ?critical questioning? and ?application? which are need to be developed in students of Physic. Relationships between the attitude towards physics and the Cognitive Preference Styles of different groups of students have also been studied. many recommendations have been made in the light of the findings to improve the teaching of Physics.
