This edited book sheds light on the COVID-19 crisis, social challenges and practices in various sectors, including education, employment, health workers, psychosocial health, disabled people, and other underprivileged sectors of India's socio-economic space during and after the COVID-19 pandemic. The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has created the most extensive disruption in human life, affecting billions of people across countries. The global spread of this virus has caused the deaths of thousands, and till date, the world has paid a high toll in this pandemic in terms of human lives lost, economic repercussions and increased poverty. It became a significant threat to low- and middle-income countries, including India, Bangladesh and other sub-continent countries. Vulnerable populations, like the poor, the elderly and people living in close proximity (slums), were infected by these diseases badly. These inevitably have a severe adverse impact on different facets of human life. Thus, every professional must react to social problems and address COVID-19 in terms of its unfortunate circumstances on social conditions and the lives of individuals, families, households, groups, and communities to resolve social challenges.

 

Dr. Joyashri Dey (b.1987) (MSW (Gold Medalist), PhD, UGC-NET & JRF) is Assistant Professor, Department of Social Work, Assam (A Central) University, Silchar, India. She has pursued her Post Graduation and Doctoral Research from Assam (A Central) University, Silchar. She has an experience of working with many regional and national level reputed NGOs including Oxfam International, Kolkata, HLFPPT, Delhi. She has been the Editor of books of the title “Globalization and the Concerns of Social Landscape in India” and “Catastrophes in India’s Social Landscape Its Society and COVID-19 Pandemic”. She has also published several research articles in various reputed national and international journals and also chapters in several edited books. She has done one project sponsored by

Mr. Rajdeep Dutta (b.1992) (MSW (Gold Medalist), MA (Edu), UGC-NET & JRF) is Non-Medical Faculty (MSW), Department of Community Medicine, Tezpur Medical College & Hospital, Tezpur, India. He is also a Doctoral Candidate at the Department of Social Work, Assam (A Central) University, Silchar, India. He has pursued his Post Graduation in MSW from Assam (A Central) University, Silchar and MA (Edu) from Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University, Guwahati, Assam. He has been the Editor of a book of the title “Catastrophes in India’s Social Landscape Its Society and COVID-19 Pandemic”. In his academic career he has published his research works in various reputed national and international journals and also chapters for edited books. He has also contributed his research papers in many National & International Conferences.

Prof. Subhabrata Dutta (b.1973), PhD, Mphil, PGCRM, MSW, is a Professor at the Department of Social Work, Assam (A Central) University, Silchar, India. He started his academic career as a faculty at TISS, Mumbai and has taught there for two years. Dr. Dutta was an academic fellow at George Mason University, Washington DC, and has visited many European and Asian countries for academic and research purposes. So far 14 scholars have completed PhD under his guidance and completed five Projects sponsored by Planning Commission of India, NITI AAYOG, Govt. of India, Ministry of Urban Affairs, Govt. Of Assam and UNICEF Assam. So far he has published seven books as author and co-author. He has Contributed around 20 reffered articles and 15 research papers in different Indian and International journals and editorial page pieces in leading Indian News paper (The Statesman). He is associated with several professional bodies like, ICSD, NAPSWI, ISPSW etc.
