This book seeks to describe the Vaipheis’ rich culture, rituals, traditions, and political structures, which have long been ignored and are now fading from memory among the tribe’s younger generations. It aims to investigate the impact of Christianisation on the people who coupled the new religion with key aspects of a previous cultural identity. It tries to underline the extent to which socio-cultural and political systems have altered from colonial to post-colonial times, as well as to examine how the legacy of colonialism has influenced the socio-cultural lives of Vaiphei society in general. The experiences of every member of the event, community, or culture under study are not included in macro-histories. This book fills the void and disparity in the current historical literature by providing a micro-history of the Vaipheis whose stories must not be lost inside the historical processes or in an anonymous throng.
